TIDTAYA SINUTOKE (ฑิตยา สินุธก) is an award-winning Thai musical theatre composer, writer, and musician based in New York City. Originally from Thailand, educated, and living in America, her music reflects a lifelong multicultural journey and celebrates Asian/-American women and immigrant stories by combining contemporary musical theatre sound with traditional world music tonality. Composition credits include HALF THE SKY (The 5th Avenue Theatre’s First Draft Commission and Radio Play, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, Theater Mu, Theater Latté Da, the O’Neill Center), SUNWATCHER (Weston Theater Company, Ancram Opera House, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, The Civilians, Goodspeed Musicals, Tofte Lake Center), DEAR MR. C (The Crossroad Project’s Diverse Voices Playwriting Initiative, Polyphone Festival), and LITTLE DUGONG AND HER SEAGRASS SONG (American Opera Project).
Tidtaya was awarded the 2017 Jonathan Larson® Grant, the 2020 Weston-Ghostlight New Musical Award, the 2020 Billie Burke Ziegfeld Award, the 2021 International Theatermakers Award, and the 2021 Fred Ebb Award. In addition, she is a recipient of the 5th Avenue Theatre’s 2018-2019 First Draft Commission, the American Opera Projects’ 2021-2023 Composers & the Voice, and the 2023-2025 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow.
Her works have been developed and supported by the Composer-Librettist Studio at New Dramatists, Yale Institute for Music Theatre, Johnny Mercer Foundation, Kilroy’s Honorable Mentions, Robert Rauschenberg Residency, EtM Con Edison Composer-in-Residence, the Kurt Weill Foundation, and Rhinebeck Writers Retreat.
