Mission

Honor your practice with time.

Loghaven Artist Residency’s mission is to serve artists by providing them with a transformative residency experience and continued post-residency support. The residency is located on ninety acres of woodland in Knoxville, Tennessee. Artists live in five historic log cabins that have been both rehabilitated and modernized to create an ideal setting for reflection and work, and they have access to new, purpose-built studio space. The residency is completely funded. All Loghaven Fellows are awarded stipends to support the creation of new work during the residency.

Forge new relationships.

One of Loghaven’s distinguishing features is our desire to cultivate relationships with Fellows that endure beyond their stay. For over eighty years, this cabin community has been home to artists, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs seeking inspiration in beautiful surroundings. It is our heritage. We consider the Fellows to be members of a longstanding community and have put support structures in place to foster their relationship with Loghaven over time. Alumni/ae are eligible to return for a two-week alumni/ae-only residency in addition to participation in future residencies and programs. We engage alumni/ae through personal outreach, marketing initiatives, and relationship building to promote their work and further their careers.

Make space for your ideas.

The residency can last from two to six weeks and is process-oriented. Loghaven is a retreat-based residency, Fellows are not expected to participate in public events unless they choose to do so. If artists are interested in working with the community, Loghaven has regional partners who are eager to interact with resident artists.

Loghaven enters a thriving residency field – there are five hundred residency programs in the United States alone. Loghaven’s goal is to become one of the premier support organizations for artists creating new work. In addition, we aim to enrich artistic discourse in Tennessee and the Southeast by nurturing the highest caliber of contemporary art. Loghaven Artist Residency is a member of the Artist Communities Alliance (ACA), the leading international service organization for artist residencies. We have worked closely with the ACA to develop our program.
